Support Staff On-Call Roster/HoursOne member from the Experiment
Support Group serves as the Program Manager each week that SSRL is running. This
person tours the floor with the Duty Operator daily at approximately 3:00 PM. If
you contact the Duty Operator with a problem that he/she cannot solve, the Duty
Operator will contact the Program Manager. On-call hours for individual beam
line problems are 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and 8:00 AM to
5:00 PM Saturday, Sunday and holidays. If you need to contact the Beam Line
Program Manager outside of normal working hours, this must be done through the
Duty Operator.
Computer support is not routinely available after hours.
If there is a failure after hours the person responsible for the system can be
called at the discretion of the Program Manager. Again, initial contact should
be made through the Duty Operator.
Medical ServiceThe SLAC Medical Department (ext. 2281), located in the
A&E Building, Room 137, provides medical service from 8:00 AM to noon and
from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM during the work week. The SLAC Medical Department is
available to users for emergencies and medical problems that may occur while at
SLAC.
Emergencies During Off-HoursIn case of accident or emergency on the
SLAC site outside of normal working hours, call 9-911 for paramedic response.
SSRL StockroomSSRL has a small stockroom of commonly used items. The
items are checked out of the stockroom using a computerized inventory system.
Supplies taken will be charged to your user account. To use the system you must
know your Spokesperson's name and your user account number. Your user account
number may be obtained from Michelle Steger in User Administration. The
stockroom is located on the ground floor of Building 120 near the main
stairwell.
The stockroom hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday. The Duty Operator can assist users after regular hours; however,
you are encouraged to use the stockroom during normal business hours.
SLAC StoresA catalog for SLAC stores is available in the SSRL
stockroom; please do not remove it. SLAC stores is located in Building 81, hours
are 7:00 AM - 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.
DocumentationThere is a notebook at each station containing
documentation specific to that experimental area.
All software
documentation is available from Ellie Fazli (ext. 3038).
Copy MachinesCopy machines are located in the Building 120 Library area
and on the Building 131 experimental floor between Beam Lines 5 and 6.
TelephonesTelephones are available at each beam line, the direct dial
number should be printed on the telephone and on your beam time notification
form. For internal calls, dial only the last 4 digits. For local calls within
the 650 area code, dial 9 first to get an outside line, then dial the local
number. For local calls to area codes 408, 415, and 510, dial 9-1-(area code)
and the 7-digit number. (see Phone Numbers for Beam Lines

Long DistanceYou
can make calling card calls within the U.S. from telephones with any class of
service. If you have a calling card from AT&T, call 1-800-225-5288; for MCI,
call 1-800-674-7000; for Sprint, call 1-800-877-8000.
You can also use
calling cards from many other carriers. Contact your service provider for
additional information.
Telephone carriers will not allow you to charge
calls to restricted countries to a calling card; you need to bill it to your
home phone number instead. (The designation restricted changes frequently; you
can find out by simply calling the country by the usual procedure.
International CallsLong distance calls should be charged to your
calling card or credit card. A few offices at SSRL have international
capability, and arrangements can be made to use these phones if necessary.

Duty Operator PagingTo use this pager, dial 9-846-0440. When you hear
the beeping stop, dial the phone number for the return call. The pager is a
dispatched system and is not instantaneous. You can also page the Duty Operator
by dialing the general building pager number 161.
General PagingTo activate the paging system for Buildings 120 and 131,
dial 161 from any phone and begin your page. Include the name of the individual
you are trying to reach and your phone number for the return call. REPEAT THE
ENTIRE PAGE TWICE. In consideration of other users, please limit your use of the
floor paging system.
FaxesThe number of the FAX machine, located in the Building 120
mailroom, is (650) 926-3600. The FAX machine in Building 137 is (650) 926-4100,
and is located near the reception area.
Federal ExpressTo send out Federal Express shipments from SSRL
containing documents only please call the Building 137 receptionist, Jennifer
Peck (ext. 2600). To send boxes/packages via Federal Express see information on
shipping and receiving below. To ship material to SSRL by Federal Express the
address is: 2575 Sand Hill Road, Building 120 or 137, Menlo Park CA 94025.
Please include beamline and spokesperson's name. Federal Express packages are
delivered at SLAC receiving at 10:00 AM and then SLAC makes their delivery at
2:00 PM at SSRL. If you need your Federal Express package earlier, please call
ext. 2300. You will have to go up to SLAC Receiving to get your package.
Shipping and ReceivingTo expedite your equipment shipments to SLAC,
please call Milo Lewis (ext. 2091) with the way/air bill number and the name of
the carrier on the day you ship out your equipment. Shipments should be
addressed with your name, c/o Milo Lewis Building 120, to expedite their passage
through SLAC receiving. Due to a lack of storage space, we request that your
equipment arrive no more than one week before you do. Please understand that
under the terms of the User Agreement, SSRL does not assume any liability for
your equipment. COD packages cannot be accepted. Users with beam time on
macromolecular crystallography beamlines should reference SMB User
Shipments for more information on shipments to and from SMB beamlines at
SSRL.
StorageVery limited storage space for experimental equipment is
available at SSRL. To arrange for storage or set-up space contact Glen Kerr
(ext. 3049).
Cranes and ForkliftsSSRL has cranes and forklifts available. These can
only be operated by licensed personnel. Please contact the Duty Operator to
arrange for equipment to be moved. |
