Biological Safety Environmental Health and Safety requires a BUA form if
your research involves any biohazardous materials including recombinant DNA,
Infectious Agents, prions, or other materials which may cause disease in humans
or animals, or can cause significant environmental impact. In addition, work
with human, primate or sheep tissues, fluids, or cell culture; transgenic plants
or animals; human gene therapy; releases of recombinant DNA to the environment;
Select Agent work and work with animals known to be potential reservoirs of
zoonotic diseases. The Institutional Biosafety Committee reviews research
involving recombinant DNA, Biosafety Level-3 Infectious Agents and Select
Agents.

Radiation Safety According to Federal and State
regulations, UC Irvine must maintain an inventory of radioactive materials. The
Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Radiation Safety Officer
coordinates the radioisotope inventory program. Principal Investigators with an
active RUA must maintain an inventory of their radioactive materials.
Inventories must be updated at least every six months.

Chemical Inventory Management
According to federal, State and local law, UC Irvine must maintain an
inventory of existing hazardous materials at campus locations (labs, maintenance
facilities, research stations, etc.). The Environmental, Health & Safety
(EH&S) Hazardous Materials Manager coordinates the campus chemical inventory
program. Persons in charge of labs and chemical storage locations must
periodically submit a current inventory of their hazardous materials. In
addition, inventories must be updated if there is a significant change such as a
move to a new room or a significant change in inventory (e.g., acquisition of
new hazardous chemicals or a greater than 10% change in your original inventory
volumes). | |
