A large European operator with fixed-line, mobile and Internet
assets wanted to implement a fully integrated, strategic, end-to-end inventory
management system across all of the fixed infrastructure for its fixed, mobile
and data networks.
The challenge
Over the years our clients networks had become increasingly complex,
dynamic, and therefore more challenging to manage with traditional approaches.
It needed a system capable of delivering a graphical, end-to-end representation
of its circuits and systems for all its fixed line transmission circuits and
equipment, and for the fixed elements of its wireless network.
Capgeminis Approach
The project involved migrating data from the legacy inventory system to the
state-of-the-art Cramer Systems software. The project involved three main
aspects:
- Modeling the network and service resources to ensure the
Cramer software reflected in detail the clients business practices and customer
interactions
- Configuring and customizing the original inventory framework
introduced by Cramer, including developing new modules and interfaces to add
functionality as the need arose to meet specific client requirements
- Migrating all existing data from legacy systems and, where
necessary, original Cramer installation to the new Cramer software
Value Delivered
The project has addressed our clients core inventory problem by providing a
solution that successfully overcomes the issues of complexity, change and
scalability to improve business performance through OSS. The benefits of the
project include:
- Improved productivity through data consistency
- Easy-to-use graphical representations of complex data
- Service deployment automation
- Refined inventory processes across previously discrete domains and
technologies
- Dramatic reduction in the annual cost of maintenance of the
inventory system
- Enhanced inventory management that delivers demonstrable bottom line
benefits by improving operating efficiency
- The new software package can be applied to GSM, GPRS, UMTS,
transmission, access, and data (IP VPN), with shared development, validation and
management under a global maintenance contract
- Implementation of a scalable system that can handle increasing
numbers of users across the business
Today our client is better able to manage its essential assets: while
infrastructure can be purchased, it is managing the cost and delivery of what it
sellsnamely, network capacityand this is the key to its profitability.
