The Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) Program

Sign up for CAIS for 2006

To participate in CAIS for 2006, you must select a protection level by September 30, 2006.

If you participated in CAIS for 2003, 2004, or 2005, you will automatically be enrolled for 2006 at the maximum protection level. In August, you will receive a notice with details on the different levels of protection and the corresponding fees for each level.

If you have never participated in CAIS before, you can request a 2006 CAIS New Participant Package. Ask for your new participant package and return the information as early as possible so that you can receive your Options Notice before the deadline to select a protection level.

If you have any questions, contact the CAIS Administration toll free at 1-866-367-8506 or email us your question.

There is an issue with the electronic filing of the 2005 Harmonized Program Information and the Statement of Farming Activity form. When the harmonized form is submitted electronically to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) by E-FILE or NETFILE, the CAIS information is not being transferred and processed correctly. There are no problems with the transmission of the tax information.

All participants who have already submitted, or who plan to submit their harmonized form to CRA by E-FILE or NETFILE must also submit paper copies of the following sections of the harmonized form (all required CAIS information) to CRA

  • Section 1 “ CAIS Program Participant
  • Section 2 “ Participant Profile
  • Section 7 “ Crop Inventory Valuation
  • Section 8 “ Livestock Inventory Valuation
  • Section 9 “ Other Information

Be assured that the tax information is transmitting correctly and there is no need to submit a paper copy of sections 3 to 6 of the form. We apologize for this inconvenience. The deadline for filing the 2005 CAIS Harmonized form has been extended to September 30, 2006.

The Canadian Agricultural Income Stabilization (CAIS) program integrates stabilization and disaster protection into a single program, helping producers protect their farming operations from both small and large drops in income. The CAIS program is a whole-farm program available to eligible farmers regardless of the commodities they produce.

This Web site outlines how the CAIS program works.

The CAIS program is delivered in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador by a federal administration.

In Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island, the CAIS program is delivered provincially.
