The Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Enterprise Architecture Management (OEAM)
has responsibility to produce an enterprise-wide baseline system inventory.
OEAM performed a survey in the fall of calendar year 2005, receiving information
on about 1800 VA systems. The data included information on a wide variety of
systems such as applications, IT infrastructure, medical infrastructure, COTS
systems, personal workstations, etc. The immediate concern of VA Enterprise
Architecture (EA) was the identification of major applications systems.
According to OMB Circular A-130, the term "major information system" means an
information system that requires special management attention because of its
importance to an agency mission; its high development, operating, or maintenance
costs; or its significant role in the administration of agency programs,
finances, property, or other resources. Following this definition, OEAM has
identified nearly 400 VA major business application systems that comprise the VA
Baseline System Inventory (BSI) for EA 4.1.
Major Business Application Identification Report
This reports lists all identified major applications along with a brief
description, the sources used by the BSI to identify the system, the physical
location of the base (development) system, the system (server) platform, and the
operating system. The report also provides the current system version (when
available).
