This project has three major components; a pole management SQL Server
database, web interface for managing the data, and incorporation of legacy MS
Access data and tables. The web interface provides intuitive tools for the
maintenance, update, quality control, and record editing. CCEC staff and outside
users are automatically notified via email of planned pole maintenance
activities and their responsibilities. Access to data is controlled by user
credentials: internal users have access to all data, while external users have
access to a subset of the data. Using data transform services (DTS), AGI
converted the existing Access database to a relational MS SQL Server 2005
database that supports ESRI geodatabase functionality and will be linked to
ArcGIS and ArcIMS for webmapping. A web interface application is being created
to allow for data management. AGI is using C#, ASP.net, and MS Reporting Server
to create a custom application. Currently defined tools: § User Management:
Allows creation of users and assignment of user permissions to specific data
management operations. § Manage Pole Attributes: Allows updating/editing of pole
attributes, access to exception system, and access to the "Edit Approval" system
§ Third Party Listing and Joint Notification System: Create/Update/Delete/Close
joint notices assigned to 3rd party companies. Joint Order Notification System
allows notification of all related parties that they have a work notice pending.
The Joint Notice Close system will inform CCEC that all work for this pole has
been done and provide other relevant information. § Edit Approval System: This
system will present all edits made to the pole inventory in a tabular fashion. §
History System: Every time a pole edit has been approved, a snapshot of its
previous state is taken and then stored for possible future retrieval. §
Reporting: This tool creates viewable reports via the web. |
