NASA Information Locator Record NASA Supply Management System

The NASA Supply Management System (NSMS) contains information about expendable
inventory supply items obtained and used in support of the various NASA missions.
Since there is no centralized database for NSMS (i.e. each NASA Center operates
it's own copy of NSMS), the information pertains only to the items maintained by
one given NASA Center. Stock items in NSMS are identified by National Stock Number,
and manufacturer part number, and include a full item description. The database
also includes information on item demands, Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) stock levels,
and shelf life. The Transaction file in NSMS contains a full history of actions
against all supply items. These actions include orders from suppliers, receipts,
issues to customers, transfers to other agencies, and price and/or quantity adjustments.
Routine updates are performed to the system daily as actions occur.

Begin Date: October 1990

Purpose:
NSMS was created to provide NASA Centers a standard system for managing,
tracking and reporting expendable inventory holdings and activities.
Each NASA Center is responsible for their own information in the system.

Agency Program:
The NASA Supply Management System is maintained in accordance with NHB 41001.1G
(NASA Materials Inventory Manual) which authorizes the use of automated systems
for managing expendable inventory.
