Information collected by the Ramona GIS Inventory

The "Status Maps" and "Directory" are accessible for anyone to use. Information that is entered under "My Profile" is used for the creation of the "Status Maps" and "Directory" listings. Only registered users can enter their contact and GIS information under the "My Profile" section. Registration is easy and free of charge. Information collected by the Ramona GIS Inventory is utilized for local, regional, statewide, and national planning and building of Spatial Data Infrastructures.

Create an Account

New users must create an account in order to be registered. Click "Create and Account" or "My Profile" to create a new account. Fill-in required information. Registered users will be prompted to login. Your login name is your email address. If your email address changes, you are responsible for logging-in under your old email address and updating your log-in information under the User Profile section.

Registered Users

Log-in at the top right side of the header or click on "My Profile" to log-in. If you forget your password, click "XX" and your password will be emailed to you. Registered users can visit the site and update their Profile as often as desired.

Your Profile

The Ramona GIS Inventory is divided into sections under "My Profile." They include:
  • User Profile
  • Organizational Profile
  • Systems Profile
  • Policies Profile
  • My Geography
  • Framework Data Profile
  • Other Data Profile
We estimate it will take between 15 - 25 minutes to complete the first five sections of the inventory. After completing these sections you will be able to inventory each of your individual data layers at any time in the future using the "Framework Data Profile" or "Other Data Profile" sections. We estimate that it will take 30 seconds to two minutes to inventory each individual data layer. You should only inventory data that you or your organization has created or substantially modified directly or through contractual services. You should not document data produced by other entities that you use in your operation.

Basic FGDC Metadata

In your Profile, Ramona is inventorying information about you, your organization, your data management policies and the status of your GIS data. This information is important for local, regional, statewide, and national GIS planning and investments. It is also an important component of your metadata - documentation of your data sets.

As a service to you, Ramona offers the ability to generate basic Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) metadata based on your Profile. The resulting metadata is only minimally compliant with the FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata. It does not include important data quality, attribute and other information. Basic metadata from Ramona is intended to help users jump-start their metadata efforts if they do not currently have metadata. The metadata can be imported into several metadata/GIS software or text editing packages for your use and completion. The National States Geographic Information Council strongly supports the full FGDC Metadata standard and encourages users to add appropriate information to make your metadata fully compliant.

If you choose to create basic metadata from your Profile, Ramona will post your output metadata in a zipped folder that you can download. Ramona will also post the metadata to a web folder that will be harvested by Geospatial One Stop. Users that already create metadata and post it to a data clearinghouse can easily "opt-out" of metadata creation in Ramona.

Publishing Ramona Metadata

At the User's discretion, Ramona metadata can be shared with other users by "publishing" it to state clearinghouses and the Geospatial One Stop (GOS) portal. Click which metadata records you would like to publish, or click "publish all records". Your Basic FGDC Metadata will be placed in a web folder which can be harvested by GOS, and optionally by your state clearinghouse. Users who already publish their metadata to a state clearinghouse and/or GOS can "opt-out" of this feature.
