Approximation Algorithms for Stochastic Inventory Control Models

Two awards are given annually for papers judged to be the best in the field of Operations Management. The first prize is accompanied by a $500 honorarium. The second prize is accompanied by a $300 honorarium. The number of finalists will depend on the number of entries. Typically there are six (6) finalists.

Finalists will be invited to submit extended abstracts of their paper for publication in Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. (Under INFORMS policy, the publication of such abstracts in no way conflicts with submission of the full manuscript for review to any INFORMS or other journal for publication.)

There are three conditions for eligibility:
Entrant must have been a student on or after January 1, 2005.
The submitted paper must present original research conducted primarily by the entrant. Some assistance by other individuals (such as the student€™s faculty advisor) is permitted as long as the student is at least the €œfirst author€?on the paper, i.e., it would be appropriate to list the student€™s name first on the paper even if the student€™s name is not alphabetically first.
The research must have been conducted while the entrant was a student.
In addition, a student may submit no more than one paper to the contest.

Application Process:

 A complete entry includes:
1. A cover document in PDF format with the entrant€™s name, current affiliation, address, e-mail address, telephone number, the name and email address of the entrant€™s advisor, and suggestions for appropriate judges (up to 5, as defined below). This information must not appear anywhere else. The file name should be the entrant€™s full name.
2. The paper in PDF format compliant with MSOM formatting standards (32 pages or fewer, 1€?margins, double spaced, 12 point font, etc.). The file name should be the title of the paper.
3. A cover letter from the advisor that includes the student€™s name, the title of the student€™s paper and a statement that indicates the three eligibility requirements have been met (in particular, that the research is primarily the student€™s with only some assistance from other individuals).
